Approval of Minutes

Treasurer’s Report

  • The financial report for April was presented.
  • MSB has been overcharging WACO for electricity. They have given us a credit of $1500 for this year, but cannot go back any further because the books are closed.
  • A local store keeps invoicing us without providing any information about what was purchased. The Treasurer will not pay any bills without receipts.

Vice-Chair’s Report

  • Siding has been delayed a few days, but will be started soon.
  • The carpet is still on backorder.
  • Maintenance
    • Fridge gasket needs fixing
    • Ovens have a leak
    • The fuel tanks are NOT leaking. There had been a spill previously, but is not a hazard.
    • An electric assessment is being performed.
  • About 150 people attended the Health Fair.

Chair’s Report

  • A letter was written to Dianne Horbuchuck at USPS and this is posted on the website.
  • Movie Night will resume in the fall. We have discovered that to show movies we require a site license. The Library can apply for one for the building. The cost is about $300 per year.
  • A group of people are required to be responsible for deciding on and applying for grants. Call the Chair if interested.
  • Chairs Committee is currently Erin McLarnon and Bill Mailer. The Chair would like another person, who would keep up with the news and items of importance to Willow.
  • There will be a food handlers class/test run by DEC at WCC on June 16th 10am 2pm. This will be free. The class and test may also be taken online and this is also free until the end of June. http://alaska.state.gegov.com/foodworker(approve sites)
  • Krista Grilliot will be giving CPR/AED classes.

Carnival

Linda Oxley:

  • Clean-up day is May 19th.
  • About 35 people attended the Volunteer Honor Dinner.
  • Oktoberfest will be October 22nd.
  • There will be a Bingo night on September 22nd.
  • There will be a Board Meeting on May 21st at 6pm.

Trails

Steve Charles:

  • At the next meeting on the agenda will be a discussion of grant ideas. The first grant application , the State Recreational Grant is due August 1st.
  • The Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers are putting together a Trail Assessment database and they would like input in the form of photos and GPS coordinates about the different trails. Training may be available for this.

Railroad Corridor

Shae Kosmolski:

  • The Long Range Transportation plan was approved by the Planning Commission with a change to read all corridor routes will be considered in the EIS rather than just the Willow route.
  • Greenhouse gases ruled by the Supreme Court to be within EPA jurisdiction.

Unfinished Business

40 Acre Recreational Site.

Claire Fitzgaireld asked the status of this property. WACO had requested that it be put under their management agreement with MSB and had paid the $300 application fee in July 2005. The Chair will discuss this with Ron Swanson.

New Business

Food Bank.

Claire Fitzgaireld questioned why the Community Center phone number is listed on the Food Bank of Alaska’s website under their agencies. The number should be for the Willow Area Seniors and Dee Pralle will get it changed.

Purchase of Land by USSA and MCDMA.

Mike Kelley, President of USSA requested that WACO support their bid to buy a piece of property adjacent to their existing one.

MOTION: Steve Charles moved that WACO write a letter of support to MSB regarding Upper Susitna Shooters Association (USSA) and Montana Dog Mushers Association (MCDMA) buying the parcel 23N04W20B010(B10) at less than fair market value. The motion was seconded.
VOTE: The motion unanimously. The Chair will write the letter.

SE Area Rep Report

Mary Shreves:

  • Bike Trails are not to be used by motorised vehicles
  • May 19th is Cleanup Day, starting at 9:30am. There will a BBQ at 12noon. Children’s bicycles will be raffled. See Jane Newman at the PO for more information.

SW Area Rep Report

Val Schachle:

  • People using the outside of the Community Center to play volley ball etc. should be advised (maybe a sign) to not use bad language.
  • An article in the ADN on April 18th, stated that WACO sold the mounts to WHWF.
    MOTION: Val Schachle moved that WACO write a letter to the ADN Editor stating that the mounts were not sold but donated to WHWF, because such sales are illegal.
    VOTE: The motion passed unanimously.
    ACTION: The Chair will write the letter

NE Area Rep Report

Madeline Gocke:

  • Asked what had become of the Rosalie White picture. The picture is being refurbished.

Kristie Mingo:

  • The Shirley Towne Bridge is closed for repairs.

Emergency Services

Derral Godbee:

  • There have been a couple of brush fires.
  • Burn permits are required and are available at the Fire Station. There will a fine for burning without a permit.

Library Association

Claire Fitzgaireld:

  • Chocolate Indulgence was very successful with about 50 people attending.
  • May 21st at 6:30pm in the Library, Theatre Group meeting. Call Nicole Pease, the Librarian for more information.

Lynn Phillips:

  • May 19th, Preschool Walkathon.
  • Lions are raffling a freezer and half a pig.

Zolari Avalon:

  • There will be no summer functions.
  • The new sign will be up in June.
  • At the next meeting will elect an Alternate Rep.

Dee Pralle:

  • Awaiting pre-development grant prior to proceeding with acquisition of 20 acres for next stage of senior housing.

  • Have $3000 in scholarships available for High School students.

MEA Power Plants.

MEA will be holding public meetings about the new power plants and the first will be the 19th.
