www.waco-ak.org
This site is constructed using PmWiki, a software package
released as Open Source and hence free for us to use (although they do
encourage donations).
The main advantage of this type of web-site is that it allows
authorized users to quickly and simply add content. That is,
the Chair can edit her messages, the Secretary upload and link
to her minutes, local communities can add news of their activities.
Community Center bookings can also be entered on the calendar.
Rental forms may be downloaded.
Local organizations, too, can place their content here. And, if you are
authorized to edit a page, you can add further pages linked to your
“home” page thus building a mini-web site within that of WACO (if you
do this, a small donation to WACO to offset web site expenses would
be appreciated).
All of this can be done from home computers or those in the library.
None of this requires time from a (so called) web master. To
the extent possible the site is self-organizing and run by it’s
users.
Site Changes
A record of changes to the design of the site is maintained here.
Note to other Community Councils
The code for this site is available to others wishing to establish a community
web site. No charge. Please contact the Secretary.
- Rules governing use of this site may be found in Site Policy
- PmWiki documentation is available at PmWiki.DocumentationIndex.
- What is the WikiWikiWeb?
- Basic Editing describes how to create pages in PmWiki.
- Practice editing pages in the WikiSandbox. You will need to press the Login link, then skip the “Name” field/box and enter “WACO” as the password before you can practice editing. Hopefully this will reduce the incidence of automated spam entries appearing in the sandbox.
