Treasurer’s Report

  • Is preparing FY2010 budget;
  • Anticipates a surplus for the current year, with some funds available for community projects.

Vice-Chair’s Report

  • The Junior Iditarod took place again from the Community Center and all went well.

Chair’s Report

  • Next weekend is the Iditarod Restart. Jennifer Ambrose is our contact at Iditarod HQ. Because of security issues raised last year, this year all the road crossings will have 4-6 volunteers present.

Carnival

Pat Madigan:

  • There is one suggestion so far for next year’s theme - Pioneers We are looking for more.

Trails

Steve Charles:

  • We are getting more grant money for trail maintenance.
  • We are about to start mapping the Haessler/Norris Trails.
  • The Susitna Valley Trail, Big Lake to Denali Park, is being celebrated on March 14th. Governor Palin will be at the Susitna Landing ceremony.
  • Trails is working with the WHO to obtain grant money from the Mat-Su Health Foundation for the planning phase of the Pedestrian Trails system.

Community Enrichment Program

Pat Madigan:

  • Beading classes taught by Carole Norton 1pm on March 14 & 28. The new project is beaded brooches.

Bylaws Committee

Pat Madigan:

  • Will meet at 6pm on 3rd and 24th March at WCC. All are welcome to attend
  • Legal advice was requested.
    MOTION: George Howard moved that WACO obtain legal advice for the bylaws revision.The motion was seconded.
    AMENDMENT: Claire Fitzgaireld moved that the motion be amended to add no more than $1000 for legal fees. The motion was seconded.
    VOTE: The amendment passed with 7 in favor and 2 opposed.
    VOTE: The amended motion passed with 8 in favor and 1 opposed.

Ed McCain:

  • Nothing new to report.
  • Next meeting will be 5th March at 6:30pm.

Unfinished Business

Pralles’ Lawsuit.

The Chair reported that the court had awarded WACO costs of $1800 in the suit brought by the Pralles’.

MOTION: Mike Bishop moved that this item be postponed until the mext meeting. The motion was seconded.
VOTE: Motion passed with no objection.

Community Improvement Projects.

  • List will be published.
  • Fitness Center.
  • Market Day.

New Business

Grants to deserving students.

MOTION: Norm Wakeman moved that WACO raise the maximum paid to each student from $250 to $1000. There was no second.

Library Association

Claire Fitzgaireld:

  • April 16th is Chocolate Indulgence at the WCC.
  • The featured author for the Author Reception held at the Library on February 20th was Nick Jans. The next one will be Heather Lende on March 27th.

Lions

Lynn Phillips:

  • Will be holding a Pancake Breakfast on March 14th to coincide with the Golf Tournament being held by the Chamber of Commerce. Anchorage.
  • Meet 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 7pm.

Bob Sexton:

  • Will be giving sled dog rides on the lake during the Iditarod Restart.

Jodi Snyder:

  • Pancake Breakfast during the Willow Winter Carnival raised $3000 for the PTA.
  • Will hold a Pancake Breakfast at the school during Iditarod Restart.

EMS

Darrell Godbee:

  • Were called to a fire in a storage facility in Big Lake. This was why their representative was not present at the last meeting.

Nina Davidson:

  • Has a $45,000 budget to cover Market Day, the Running Series and the Health Fair.
  • Health Fair is April 25 4-6PM at the WCC. Last year 300 people had blood work done. Again there will be free food.

Announcements

Sunshine Clinic.

The Clinic has bought land in Willow to build a new clinic. This should open this Fall or next Spring.

Lions Club.

Tom Phillips requested that the Lions be allowed to use the closet space in the upstairs apartment.
