NEW BUSINESS
Removal of Board Members for unexcused absences (Bylaws VIII.2.D).
Discussion:
- WACO bylaws allow for the removal of board members following three unexcused absences;
- the following board members have had three (or more) unexcused absences:
- Past Chair;
- Chamber of Commerce;
- She-Mon-Sun.
- noted: Road Service resigned from the board; the Garden Club has no board member;
- the Secretary was directed to write to the three community groups stating that they were removed from the board, but inviting them to re-apply if still interested and willing to attend meetings.
Rental agreement with Willow Historical and Wildlife Foundation.
MOTION: Mike Bishop moved that WACO not renew the agreement with the WHWF for use of their building. The motion was seconded. Discussion:
- the log building is owned by the WHWF but remains on WACO managed property pending removal to an alternate WHWF
- under the agreement WACO has paid for utilities in return for use of the building for the Arts and Crafts Fair and the Iditarod restart;
- the building was not used for the ‘Fair in 2008; Iditarod understand that the building may become unavailable for use;
- utility costs were $418.56 in FY2007 and $481.52 in FY2008 ;
- noted: WHWF allow use of the building by community groups for fund raising or other activities at no charge while requiring WACO (effectively) to pay for that same use;
- use of the building by community groups when the Community Center is not being used, or where such use might be rescheduled, means that WACO pays both for log building and community center utilities;
- WACO needs to be sure that the log building is adequately insured such that WACO bears no liability;
- should WACO require use of the building in the future they may approach the WHWF in the same manner as any other community organization.
VOTE: Motion passed unanimously.
