Assembly Report

Tom Kluberton:

  • Upcoming items for the Assembly
    • Combining Road Service Areas.
    • The Meadowlakes Parks Hwy expansion.
    • Wasilla Bypass.
    • Land Use Permits
  • There are questions about why Willow was not included in the decision to choose Railroad Corridor 3. The whole process is expected to take 15 years and this is the first step in that process.
  • March 13th is the deadline for proposals to bid on building the KNIK Arm Bridge.

Treasurer’s Report

  • The report for February was presented.
  • An updated Carnival report was presented.

Vice-Chair’s Report

  • New carpet will be installed in the hallway and foyer starting next weekend.
  • The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is now installed in the hallway opposite the Library.

Chair’s Report

  • 34 people have applied to be on the Willow planning team. The team will be approved by the Planning Commission sometime in April. The team will then be published on the website.
  • April 6th will be Family Movie Night and the movie will be Happy Feet.
  • The Junior Iditarod finished at the Community Center.
  • The Iditarod Restart was held at the Community Center. With rental and the kitchen WACO made about $6300.
  • The Railroad will not be using herbicide on the tracks.
  • On March 2 the suit that Rich & Dee Pralle brought against WACO in Small Claims was moved by the judge to District Court. The new date is April 20th at 8:30am. As a corporation WACO must have a lawyer in this court.

Carnival

Linda Oxley:

  • The theme for the next Carnival will be voted on at the AGM.
  • The next Carnival meeting will be 7pm on the March 19th.
  • The Volunteer Dinner will be April 14th.

Trails

Tom Phillips:

  • Bill Luth in addition to all the other trailwork, he also groomed the trail for Iditarod to the Big Su.

Unfinished Business

Adoption of CERT by WACO.

MOTION: Mary Shreves moved that CERT be recognized as a Special Standing Committee of WACO. The motion was seconded.
VOTE: The motion passed with 8 board members voting for and 4 board members voting against.

Nominations Committee.

Will be announced later.

Recognition of PTA as local organization.

MOTION: Mary Shreves moved that the Willow Elementary PTA be recognized as a local organization and be allowed a seat on the WACO Board. The motion was seconded.
VOTE: The motion passed unanimously by Board vote.

Chamber of Commerce

Doyle Holmes:

  • Next meeting March 7th at the Willow Trading Post.
  • Golf Tournament April 7th at WCC.
  • The decision to support Railroad Corridor 3 was taken at the January 2nd meeting. Steve Charles was contacted regarding this meeting.

Erv Dedeker:

  • Still looking for Equipment and supplies, particularly radios.
  • There will be training in Big Lake in April.

Derral Godbee:

  • There was one fire at MP 11 on Hatcher Pass Road.
  • Remember to change batteries on smoke detectors. Fire Department will provide smoke detectors free of charge if you need them.

Shirley Wakeman:

  • There will be no meeting this month.

Library Association

Claire Fitzgaireld:

  • Singing Valentines were a great success.
  • By popular request Chocolate Indulgence is returning.
  • Beadwork classes March 24th and 31st in the Library.

Lynn Phillips:

  • Family Skate night March 23rd at the Willow Elementary School.
  • Raffle, chest freezer and half a pig, with the drawing taking place on May 26th.

Bobbie Lewis:

  • All proceeds from the quilt raffle go towards scholarships for high school students.
  • Annual tea May 5th at WCC will be a Mexican Tea.

WHO

Mary Reardon:

  • Transportation needs were high on the survey that the WHO conducted. There are now sign-up sheets posted around town. Please sign up if you have transportation requirements. If people can get a ride to Houston, then MASCOT can take them to Wasilla.

Persons to be heard

Derral Godbee.

Why was there no Carnival King & Queen? Dick & Twila Palmatier agreed to be King & Queen for the July 4th Parade.

Shae Kosmolsky.

There is some question about the public process that led to the decision to go with Railroad Corridor 3. There will be a public meeting at Point McKenzie with the farmers of that area, who also have concerns regarding the railroad corridor.

Laurie Courtney.

Is willing to work with another volunteer on the next Arts & Crafts Bazaar in November, with a view to that person then taking over.
